Post by: WayneWood on November 26, 2006, 09:26:49 PM
Hi all,

Yes it should be available. Your passwords should not change.

If you are unable to login, the problem may will be in the cookies or your cache.

Please clear your system cache if the problem persists.
This is good practice in any event and needs to be done once a month at least.
In Internet explorer click on Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Temporary Internet Files -> Delete Files
In Firefox click on Tools->Options->Cache Tab->Clear Cache Now

Please also clear your cookies.

Thanks Rod,

Tried all this and all the other usual problems such as caps lock on or off and so on, but I keep getting "login information is incorrect" message.

The only password I have is the member login one. is this the one that is supposed to work with sitebuilder login or is there something else again?

Cheers
Wayne

Hi Wayne, Once you are logged into your main GDI account, are you going down the left side menu and clicking on your domain name? This is how you can get into your site builder, that's if you haven't already tried it..Hope this helps

From memory you should be able to logout and login again and then add a page from the site builder. I am unable to check where I am at the moment.

Hi K Bell,

My name is Jean Michel French speaker and newbie, and I wanna to try to help you, so first if you want to add video on your website.

1- You have to Upload the file to your Gallery in your SITE-BUILDER
2-  Then in your page editor [edit your page where you want add it]
3 - Insert it FROM your Gallery, [submit] That's it!

I hope you understand my explanations.
Good luck.

Title: Removing huge space between context blocks
Post by: Marta Broom on March 04, 2007, 06:03:32 AM
Hello

My current .ws site wasn't created with Site Builder so I thought I'd better have a go with it so that I could answer any queries from my team. I also thought it would be easy as I have been creating web sites in Dreamweaver for many years. Most of it is pretty straightforward, if not a bit clumsy and restrictive. But my problem is that I have been almost 2 hours trying to get the context blocks closer together instead of the huge unreasonable gap I am left with.

I have checked the forum and noticed that this topic has been raised before but no satisfactory answer was given.

Does anyone know how to get the context blocks closer to the the previous block without looking as though several line spaces have deliberately been created between them?  Am I doing something wrong or is it just an undesirable feature of the software?

Marta

The fastest way is to edit the actual HTML. This is generally caused by blank header and footer blocks.
Look for <span class="content_header"></span> and or <span class="content_footer"></span>

The simplest way to change the order of your pages is to cut and paste the pages in the HTML form of the site builder.

Meta tags will not really help you. The tag goes between the two <head></head> tags in the top of the page

Code:
<html>
<head>
<title>American Biographies Download Page</title>
<meta name="description" content="American Biographies Download Page">
<meta name="keywords" content="American Biographies Download Page">

<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" link="#0000FF" vlink="#800080" alink="#FF0000">

Hi,

I hope I'm in the right area. I couldnt find a place for a new thread.

Anyway, my website is http://theamericanway.ws.

Near the top of my site I have the words,  Click Here! Join our privacy club now. Click Here!

Then there is a rather large space and the words thatbegin the next paragraph, "I highly recocommend...."

My problem is I don't know how to reduce that rather large space between the two areas.

Any ideas?

Hi Bianca,

I have uploaded my video tutorial on how to use the site builder at youtube, you can go here to view:

The best content to put on your website is something that of your interest. You can write about why you join GDI, your hobbies or just simply upload your family photos for sharing  :)

Title: Can I set up a download link for a digital product using the website builder?
Post by: Daniel Rydstedt on June 23, 2007, 05:09:08 AM
I am trying to determine whether to us the website builder or the hosting option?  Can I set up a download link for a digital product using the website builder?  I need to upload an ebook and be able to put a link where people can download it on a page.  If not can it be done with the hosting option if I design the page in dreamweaver?  Do either the the site builder or the hosting option have cpanel?  Thanks for any help you can give me.

If you store the book on your site you need the hosting option.

Hello everyone, I am new here, and I was looking through everyone's website and I noticed that a few people have really nice GDI sites..

Is there a template or somthing that I can use to get my  site to look like these?  I dont see this being done with the regular site builder.

Any info would get greatly appreciated.

Don't forget to include your username in the URL where it says sponsor=username

Thanks again Nicole, I had to change the site settings from using site builder, to forward site and email.  Now my questions is this, (i know I ask a lot of questions)  can I have my site forwarded to the GDI template but still use my XXXX@sitenmae.ws email address??  I tried and it wanted me to forward my email to another host, it said that I cannot fwd email to the same location?

Post by: J_Governale on July 11, 2007, 10:21:51 AM
Also, I noticed that when I got to my page the template is updated, but the web address in the address bar is not my site, it is the link to the template I fwd'd it to.

How do I fix that, when people go to my site, I would like for my domain name to stay in the address bar.

Title: Re: Building a Site
Post by: Nicole Taylor on July 11, 2007, 10:35:30 AM
Somebody help me out.. Lol! I'm just kidding... kinda ;D

Try this:

<html><head><title>WEBSITE.WS - Your Internet Address For Life&trade;</title></head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0" frameborder="0">
<frame src="http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?domain=www.YourDomain.ws" name="blade-2-1.worldsite.ws" scrolling="auto">
</frameset></html>

I really don't think GDI intended for us to use these templates; however, members are using them anyway because they are eye-catching and nice.

You can still use your .WS e-mail; however, all e-mails will be forwarded to the e-mail address you specify when using the URL forwarding.

are there any others that are more down to earth... and not based on fast cars or bikini clad women?

I just started building my web page a few days ago. I am very annoyed at the lack of content I can get on a page. It's something like 4000 html characters max to a content block. That's fine, but to get any amount of decent content on your page you need to have several content blocks. Now, when i create a content block it just plonks it randomly on the page - always where I don't want it. You can't move them and you can't designate where you want them. so building a page is almost impossible.

Another thing is, sometimes when i create my webpage and i have everything how i want it, i press save and it goes to the preview page. Everything is all over the place and not how it was when i saved it.

It really does seem impossible to build web page. Unless i'm doing it all wrong of course.

Can anyone help me please?? :D

I have been with GDI for almost 3 months and I am in the process of putting my GDI site together.

I have sent a support ticket to my question while I wait for a reply, could I get a different way to solve this problem here.

My question is if you made a mistake with your page 1 not with the template but with the layout can it be removed? as I have tried in properties to change the layout even though I can do it there. I am not getting the required results. What I would like to do is have an image top left hand corner with the Text header along side of that, followed by a couple of bullet points under the header and a few more underneath the image to the left hand side of the table or page.

please feel free anyone to add any ideas that they know of and works

Have a wonderful day

The fastest way is to edit the actual HTML. This is generally caused by blank header and footer blocks.
Look for <span class="content_header"></span> and or <span class="content_footer"></span>

Hi,

I appreciate Marta's question as I have the exact same problem.  Your answer has not helped me, though, Rob, as I do not know much about HTML. I  went edit, under the balnk sapce, and clicked HTML code, but I couldn't see anything about <span class="content_header"></span> and or <span class="content_footer"></span>

I even copied and pasted  the last part : <span class="content_footer"></span> into the bottom of that content block....but when I previewed it, it still has a huge blank space.

Please could I have more specific instructions?

Thank You,

Annette Ribaux.

Okay. I'm new in all this. Question: How can I make my site look like one of this: http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=username&template=2
I kown that I have to put my username on the link, and then reedirect it, but when I do, it appears the whole url extension.

How can I reedirect it without having the url extension ?

I found this, but I don't understand where to paste it (don't know if it works either):

Wes,
I'm not sure exactly what other pages you are referring to but if it's in regard to your website, you can put your phone number in your webpages by using the "Additional Properties tab" in the page editor of the Sitebuilder for each page that you want to add your number to. Hope this helps.

If you're referring to GDI'S pages, I DON'T THINK YOU CAN BUT YOU MIGHT TRY THROWING THAT BY "SUPPORT".

Have a Great Day!

Does anyone know if a password to login into certain areas can be added to the .ws sites using the sitebuilder software that comes with it?

Title: Re: Need help with flow through text?
Post by: SimonM1 on September 03, 2007, 04:42:20 AM
I have been with GDI for almost 3 months and I am in the process of putting my GDI site together.

I have sent a support ticket to my question while I wait for a reply, could I get a different way to solve this problem here.

My question is if you made a mistake with your page 1 not with the template but with the layout can it be removed? as I have tried in properties to change the layout even though I can do it there. I am not getting the required results. What I would like to do is have an image top left hand corner with the Text header along side of that, followed by a couple of bullet points under the header and a few more underneath the image to the left hand side of the table or page.

Hi Grant,

If you insert the image onto your page, then either click "Image Properties" on the Toolbar or Right Click over Picture with mouse and then click "Image Properties". You can play around with the Text Flow in there, Your looking for a Left Flow.

Best wishes
Simon

You have to click the "Insert HTML code to greater display your text, insert a banner, or other html effects" to get to the HTML page.

Hi All,

Am wondering if anybody can tell me why? when i design my web page and try to add a new content block, The new contents always over lap the original content instead of following it. This means that i have to limit my page to 4000 characters. Not really enough to get any info on.

My Hits to convert ratio stinks, Over 65 hits last period and no sign ups. Is that normal.

Glad to be a member of GDI, You all seem GREAT

Title: Can you use free templates?
Post by: LBarber on September 11, 2007, 03:36:00 AM
I was wondering if I downloaded a free template like the ones you can use in www.oswd.org , if I could deisgn my webpage there and then upload it or host it with GDI?  I'm not particularly fond of the templates GDI provides.

I know you can programs like dreamweaver, and frontpage.....but those are all html editors, and I haven't found a post yet talking about people being able to just use a template that they downloaded from online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Dan ,

I think you need to put a ? at the end of your url to make your isp update your files.

so if you were wanting to get an updated copy of http://www.website.ws then you

would type http://www.website.ws?

this is a common problem as your pc and your isp's servers will give you the cached

option for any webpage you ask for as its quicker and uses less bandwidth than going and getting

a fresh copy every time you ask

Hi Dan

The Update had probably already taken effect, Try Refreshing your Browser or going into Tools and Internet Options in your Browser and Deleting the Temporary Internet Files.
Your browser may not check for up website updates every time you view a website, therefore you will be seeing the same as the last time you viewed it, (as is in your Temporary Internet Files)

hope this helps

Hello out there. I am Eric Estrada Sr. and I am fairly new to GDI. At first the GDI web page I had the Presentatios ferrari close to the top of the page. Now it is all the way down on the bottom after ALOT of testimonials. Most people going to my web site do not go down that far to view the presentation now. Can I bring the presentation back up ccloser to the top? I am not very good at creating web pages. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hi There,  I find the best way to it is,  In your Editor Page of SiteBuilder,  Click on the HTML tab,  don't worry if you don't under stand any of the HTML.   Just Highlight and Copy all of it and then Paste it into a new Windows Notebook Document.  then Save it using the file name "index.html".

Its good to save all your pages so you have them backed up.

If you want to use the GDI Hosting Service, and upload your own website that you made using a another program.  you will need an "FTP Program".  Just search for a Free FTP Program, there are plenty available on the internet.

Best wishes

Hi,

Sounds to me like you timed out and the info in your edit block was lost.

Hopefully, you have a copy of the text and you will be able to paste it back into an edit block and click submit.

You can add and submit more edit blocks as required. Click 'publish all', and you should be able to see your page in the preview or on the website.  Make sure you have selected that the page be visible.

I've lost info because of the system timing out - it's very frustrating! As a rule, I write the text in notepad or word first and then paste it into sitebuilder - much safer.

Title: Site Builder HELP!!
Post by: D Davidson on October 08, 2007, 06:16:12 AM
I've built the basics of my site using the site builder.  Now I'm trying to verify my site with google and it says I need to do one of two things.  Either 1) Add a Meta Tag in the specific place they say as follows:

We couldn't find the verification meta tag in the HEAD section of your site's home page. If you see this error, check the following:

That you've placed the meta tag on the correct page. We look for it on your site's home page. This is the page that your server returns when someone requests your site (such as http://www.example.com/). This page is often named index.html or index.htm, but could be named differently, depending on your server's configuration.
That you've placed the meta tag in the correct place on the page. We look for it in the page's HEAD section. An example of correct placement is shown below.

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Your Title</TITLE>
<META name="verify-v1" content="String_we_ask_for">
</HEAD>
<BODY>

or 2) I can upload an HTML file the way they say as follows:

To verify your site by uploading an HTML file:

Sign into Google webmaster tools with your Google Account.
Click Verify next to the site you want.
In the Choose verification method list, select Upload an HTML file, and follow the steps on your screen.
Using any text editor, create the file that we ask for and make sure to save it with the exact name we ask for (for example, google11e5844324b7354e.html). The filename is case-sensitive and must have an ".html" extension. The file itself can be empty - we don't read the content of the file, but only check to see that it exists in the specified location. Upload the file to your webserver to the location we specify. Generally, this is the root folder for your site.
Once you have uploaded the file, click Verify button. We will verify that the file exists in the specified location. If we can't access the file, we'll give you information about the error we encountered. Once this problem is resolved, try to verify your site again.

I tried this and got an error message as follows:

We've detected that your server returns a status of 200 (found successfully) for pages that don't exist.

We've detected that your server returns a status of 200 (found successfully) for pages that don't exist. We can't verify sites with this configuration because it would enable anyone to verify ownership of your site. You can try our meta tag verification method or change your server's configuration.

This configuration presents a security risk for site verification and therefore, we can't verify your site. If your web server is configured to return a status of 200 (found) in the header of 404 (not found) pages, and we enabled you to verify your site with this configuration, others would be able to take advantage of this and verify your site as well. To ensure that no one can take advantage of this configuration to view statistics to sites they don't own, we only verify sites that return a status of 404 in the header of 404 pages.

If your server is configured to return something other than a 404 for non-existent pages, try our meta tag verification method or change your server's configuration.

You can change your web server configuration to return a status of 404 in the header of 404 pages and still provide a custom error page (see Apache information and IIS information). Note that we do a HEAD request (and not a GET request) when we check for this. Once your web server is configured correctly, try to verify the site again and we'll recheck your configuration

 ???

I am now completely lost and confused as I am new to website ANYTHING and thought I was doing good to figure out how to use the site builder.  Can anyone help me?  Is this possible to fix and have google verify the website while still using site builder? or do I have to start from scratch and use GDI hosting and try to figure out how to build my own website with some kind of software?http://

To have the content block right below an existing block, choose the "single column" layout in the page properties setting.
You can take a look at my video tutorials here on how to use the sitebuilder

Hello,

I don't know if it's possible but...  I would like to know if it's possible to reset completely SiteBuilder.  When you enter SiteBuilder the first time, you have the choice of the template that you can use to build your website.  My problem is that I want to make a video tutorial showing how to begin with SiteBuilder but, as I already logged in SiteBuilder, I don't have these choices of template.  How can I remove everything from SiteBuilder to be able to log in as it's the first time?

Thank you!

If I recall correctly, you can't   :(
What I did was to change my dns setting to basic hosting, waited for 24-48 hours for it to be activated, then change it back to sitebuilder option.
When you do this, all the pages that you have created before the changeover will be erased.
So make sure you copy the html pages before you change the dns.

Here are the steps to change dns:
At GDI member area, go to "domains" on the left menu.
Click on "Change DNS" --> select "basic hosting" radio button.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have difficulty.

I get the feeling I'm going to have to make up my own site and just use GDI for hosting.  The reason is that I cannot get the site I have created with the site builder verified by Google.  I have tried the Meta Tag way, and it doesn't work.  I even deleted all my keywords and just put in the metatag that they said to put, and it didn't work either.  They want it placed in the first head section before the first body section.

The only other way to verify is by uploading an html file titled with a title they specify  that didn't work either.

Dont know what to do.  Any suggestions?

My website has a form on it. I need a code to protect my GDI site because spammers have been lifting my info and spamming. On top of that, I DO NOT have my guest book visible on my site because they are known havens for spammers. Spammers somehow are getting a link to an apparent guestbook from my site, even though I am not using one. Is there anyway at all that we can totally get rid of that problem?

We need more protection from you, can you please tell us what to do, and no, I am not going to shell out money for a product that may not work with the GDI site builder, besides, I have lost time and money because of what's going on. OUR reputation is at stake if these spammers keep doing this to me and all GDI members.

I had to get rid of pages because of this, along with email addresses that were very important to my business. And NO, I did not have those visible either!

I want the guest book and feedback options gone from my site!!

Please Help!!!!

Hi Julie,

I have created some video tutorials on creating website with your GDI.
You can view some here:
http://www.bestgditeam.ws/page6.html

One of my tutorials is on setting up hosting with GDI.

May I know what FTP client are you using?
Open the FTP and key in the information that you received in the email about ftp username and password.
Then transfer the blog file from your computer to GDI server.

Hi Julie
ok, just check a couple of things,  You already have your site/blog build and now you just need to host it on the GDI Hosting Service?  Which ftp client are you using?

It is really easy to do, let me know when you get a chance and i'll be happy to run you through the process.

Title: DO GDI provide own Domain area to download files
Post by: Pratana Srichannon on November 18, 2007, 05:57:27 AM
I found so many websites that I am making a contract with them to pay over $250 per year to my unlimited hosting.
I applied for GDI hoping to get the same things, as I am website developer and I think most of our member want this much more than the tutorial forum.

I mean the example to prove their development else than blogger and more to e-commerce way, and GDI make some profit or another referal programs to their payment gateway such as those fore credit card.

But I really like the supportive team, so I think GDI should be only the training arena since you have no DNS provider or reselling practices.
Quote
Those of hosting services shouldn't be aware only to the training purpose and get the benefit on the day-off from GDI.

And I like your webboard!!

You need to publish the site. There is a tick box to this on the front page of the site builder.

The easiest way is to test it yourself or get a friend to test it. Then you know it is working.

Title: How hide my page?
Post by: Fabio Spezzano on November 28, 2007, 05:53:36 AM
hi to all
I'm fabio from italy
A question for you.
how can i hide a page of my site?
Because when i hide a page, if i get  the address of the page in the browser, i look the standard WS page and not my hide page.
Why?

If my hide page is http://www.onelife-liveit.ws/GDI  and copy and paste this address in the browser, it's redirect me to www.website.ws/myusername.

There is a method?
thanks

For some reason my template won't work for my website.  I've re-uploaded it more than twice, but I can't figure out why the server won't acknowledge it.  Does anyone know if there's a specific folder name(besides templates) or a specific directory I need to have it in?

I am not sure if you can change the template using Sitebuilder.  But if you choose the hosting option from you member's area, you can upload the template via FTP program or software.  Doing so, you will need to understand a little html and the FTP process.

If that is the direction you choose to go, I recommend that you search for a WYSIWYG/HTML editor to create your website.  You may have one installed on your PC...Microsoft Frontpage for example.  If not, go to Google and conduct a search for a free HTML editor.  There will be a learning process you will have to go through.

Maybe someone else out there in GDI land has a better solution than what I provided to you...I wish you luck and success.

Title: I find this error. How can I solve it ? Help ....
Post by: Santoso_Ie on December 29, 2007, 07:00:56 PM
Dear friends,

I find this message error !

You exceeded the maximum character limit for this content block. A single content block may contain a maximum of 4000 characters. This includes spaces as well as any invisible underlying code; like HTML for example. You must reduce the number of characters in this content block before saving.

Please Note: You may have an unlimited number of content blocks on a page. Putting each paragraph of text in it's own content block will help keep you from reaching the 4000-character limit, and also make it easier to edit your page.

What is content block ? How can I solve this error ?

Can someone clarify this :Putting each paragraph of text in it's own content block will help keep you from reaching the 4000-character limit ?

Thank you.

Santoso.

Title: How To Design Signup Forms with Frontpage

hi everyone! as we know, every time you create a new page, it's title page will be displayed on the upper area of the page to serve as a link. my question is, how can we make a LINK of a new published page that is not visible on the upper area? example, if i make  a new page and its link is www.website.ws/test, there is an option to make it visible right? if you opted so, the TEST name will appear on the upper area of the site as a shortcut. and every time you type the address or link on the address bar it redirects to that page. BUT, if you choose for it not to be visible, you can't even access its link (when you type the link to the address bar). IN SHORT, can we make the link accessible to surfers even if it's NOT VISIBLE on the upper area of the site. it's like a hidden page. of course not all of the pages I made for the site will be displayed on the upper portion of the site. CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?

Thanks! :)

hi everyone! have a question.. every time you create a new page, you have an option to make it visible or not right? if you choose visible, its title is displayed on the top portion of the site as shortcuts/links. I'm trying to create web pages that will serve as links (not displayed on top), but if the pages are invisible, you can't even add the link since every time you access invisible pages (typing it on the address bar directly), it redirects to www.website.ws!

for example, i created a page which is www.mysite.ws/test (invisible), then on my home page I made a link to that new page, and when you click the link, it goes to www.website.ws/myusername!  I don't want all of my pages displayed on the top portion! does anybody here knows how to fix this? Thanks! :)

Post by: DPro on January 11, 2008, 01:58:57 PM
Hi Phillip Elliot,

As far as I know, you can't actually access the invisible page. To the site builder, the invisible page does not exist.
Why not try to use an external html editor like micorsoft frontpage, dreamweaver or the free NVU to create your webpages?

NVU is an excellent web builder and its open sourced. You can get NVU free here:
http://nvudev.com/index.php

After creating the page, choose the hosting option in your GDI domain back office.
Then upload using an FTP (FileZilla is free http://filezilla-project.org/ )
This way you are not restricted to the GDI sitebuilder templates.

If you need video tutorials on that. please send me a PM.

Cheers

I am having such a hard time trying to figure out how to get the 50 minute video on my new website.  I a 57 year old self taught computer user and I am new to GDI.  I am trying to teach myself step by step how to make GDI work for me and how to build my website.  I am following the instructions of someone from this Forum that has GDI Made Easy.  I really want this business to work for me because I have MS and I want to have money for the future.  Since I am not extremely familiar with some computer terminology, I am struggling trying to get some of the 'inserts' or downloads to work. I got the 7 minute video to work, but I can't figure out how to do it again for the 50 minute one ::)  I keep downloading, copying and pasting and I just can't get it to work.  I would like to get a small 'income calculator' and 'sign up now' icon to show, but can't find it.  Can someone please help??

I am a newbie here.

I tried to build a site using site builder and completely messed it up.

I tried to create my site using an HTML editor of my own, then put it into site builder.
It kept telling my I could copy only 4000 bytes at a time, so I had to copy and paste, copy and paste, copy and paste...you get the idea.  Did I do something wrong?

Anyway, I want to use the pre-built page

as my site page, but can't figure that out either.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Did you solve this? Where do you want to move them to? Any text or images can be moved by first highlighting them and then choosing the option of Aligning them left, center or right..or justify..these options are found at the top of the editor (Edit Content)

You can use custom 404 by modifying the .htaccess file.
To do this, you need to choose the hosting option and you can't use the sitebuilder in this case.

Create an .htacess file and add the following code:

Code:
ErrorDocument 404 http://www.the website that you want to redirect to

FTP the .htaccess file to your server.
That's it.

If you need help with changing your GDI setting to hosting and ftp, please send me a message.
Cheers.

Hi All,
I am wasting heaps of time trying to utilise space on my pages.

Essentially I cannot get text beside the pictures although I did on one page with much struggling.

Here is the page: http://excitingincome.ws/BioptronLight

It doesn't look anything like the Template from->Page Properties->THEME->"Business" ->Auto Service"

Under "Layout" ->I have selected "Two columns"

The main problem is  Pictures and text seem magnetically disattracted to each other.

I've built my .ws site and am fairly pleased with it and the hits its getting but one thing that I cannot figure out is how to add one of the GDI videos to automatically play when someone hits my site.  So many people will hit ur site and leave without ever clicking on a GDI link and I know it would help if one of the videos automatically started playing when someone checks out your site.

Would really appreciate any response and thank you in advance

One thing I have learnt here is after you have been inactive for a while 30 mins? you are logged out which is annoying because when you go to edit a page again...

you will get a  pop up Sitebuilder page that only has a box with your login name and password

except it doesn't recognise your password so you think you have forgotten your password so you go back looking for it.

This is a system flaw as far as I can see.

The way around it is to bookmark this page: https://www.website.ws/members/?userid= which will recognise your login and password.

Title: Can anybvody help with putting soundfiles links on my site?
Post by: RTom on February 10, 2008, 02:15:43 PM
I found nothing in Help and these are the instructions I was given by a person from GDI in an email who I suspect didn't actually go thgrough the process before emailling me:

""To add sound files to your webpages, please follow these steps:

1. From within Sitebuilder, please select the Gallery option on the left
panel
2. Click the Browse button and choose the sound files you wish to upload
3. Click the Upload files button DONE
4. Go back to the Page Editor and choose the edit icon on the page you wish to insert the sound file DONE
5. Click the Add New Content link located on the top right-hand corner
6. Select the "Insert an .au, .wav, mp3" option DONE
7. Click the Insert button.""
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
SO I HAVE TRIED TO FOLLOW THESE EXPLICITLY.

I HAVE SUCCEEDED IN UPLOADING VOICEFILE TO GALLERY

IT APPEARS THAT THE EDITING IS DONE WITHOUT GOING INTO THE PAGE WHERE THE TEXT EDITING IS DONE.

But....WHAT IS THIS CONTENT PARAMETERS PAGE THAT POPS UP ALL ABOUT?

WHAT EXACTLY DO

WIDTH?

HEIGHT?

LOOP?

HIDDEN?

AUTOSTART MEAN?

THEN ANOTHER POP UP PAGE COMES ASKING FOR A PARGRAPH HEADER AND PARGRAPH  FOOTER!
WHAT ARE THEY ALL ABOUT? I mean I just want to put a soundfile link on! SHOULD IT BE THIS HARD??!!

ANYWAY I HAVE EXPERIMENTED WITH TRYING DIMENSIONS FOR HEIGHT AND WIDTH,
AND TICKED AUTOSTART,

GIVEN THE FILE A HEADER AND FOOTER NAME WHICH APPEARS ON THE PAGE.

BUT THERE IS NO LIVE LINK AND NO WAY FO HEARING THE SOUND FILE!!!

AND I HAVE EVEN TRIED THIS ON EMPTY PAGES SO SPACE LIMIT ISNT AN ISSUE.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT THIS CONTENT PARAMETERS PAGE ?

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Title: Anyone else use XsitePro?
Post by: ColinN on February 28, 2008, 04:41:14 AM
Hi,

I recently joined GDI in hopes of making a few extra bucks, and starting a successful internet business in line with the Business major I will be studying within the next year.

I'm just wondering if anyone here uses XSitePro to design and publish their website here at .WS.

I'm having problems uploading the tutorial website I created to my website, just for testing purposes. How do I go about doing so? I have everything set up like it says, Minus the 'Home Domain' and 'FTP Domain'. I'm not sure what to put there, and every time I attempt to publish it I get a long list or errors ,even though the process does complete. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer help.

Colin

I am teaching a course in vocal music reading for my church choir.  What I would like to do is videotape the classes and store them on my website in archival fashion so people could come to my site and view the classes.  Is that possible?  Please don't tell me I have 100 mb (or whatever) of space for my site, because I have no idea how much that is.  Plain English, please.

This is only possible with the hosted option. With the site builder you have to use the standard form to capture leads.

You can use your site for just about anything you want.
There are a ton of sites build by the GDI sitebuilder that I have seen out there that are being used as personal sites, and for promoting other businesses.

When you are in "Sitebuilder" click on the tab at the top called "additional properties" and you'll be able to add metatags & keywords there.

The fastest way is to edit the actual HTML. This is generally caused by blank header and footer blocks.
Look for <span class="content_header"></span> and or <span class="content_footer"></span>

So when i set my page up everything is around the right and left and the middle is clear, what do i do to move it all closer together towards the middle?what you just said?,see most of my stuff is pictures of products, also is there a way to maybe just put text in the middle or something?cause when i add more it all goes to the bottom automaticly??? :-\

Hi, If you are trying to delete your 1st page (Home/index page) you can't do that.
You would need to open the page in edit, highlight and delete what you already have in there, and resubmit the blank page..then you can start over.

Title: Re: Site builder query
Post by: DPro on April 23, 2008, 11:57:28 AM
Hi Dan,

You'll need to change the DNS option to hosting to upload the splash page.
I have a video tutorial on how to set the hosting option, send me a private message for the link.

Another easier way that doesn't require uploading or scripts is just to use the splash pages provided by GDI

http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=your_username&template=1
http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=your_username&template=2
http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=your_username&template=3
http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=your_username&template=4
http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=your_username&template=5

change your_username to your GDI userid

Hi Carmel, Your banner code should look something like this
<a href="http://www.yourdestinationwebsiteurl.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.yourbannerimagesource/images/banner.gif" width="468" height="60" border="0"></a>
Or you can upload your banner image to the ws gallery, open your page, and while in design mode insert the image onto your page, click on the image to highlight it, and then choose the link option from the editor, and enter your destination URL to make your banner image into a live link.
Hope this helps All the best Dave

If your friends need more server space, he/she can point the GDI domain name to use the advanced hosting option by keying in the nameservers
There many free hosts out there who will offer up to 1G space.
Just google " free hosting"

You can put whatever you want on your website, affiliate products, other MLM biz that or a blog.
I recommend that you put a blog as your homepage, then have links to your other programs.

What else can I do?

Yes it should be available. Your passwords should not change.

If you are unable to login, the problem may will be in the cookies or your cache.

Please clear your system cache if the problem persists.
This is good practice in any event and needs to be done once a month at least.
In Internet explorer click on Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Temporary Internet Files -> Delete Files
In Firefox click on Tools->Options->Cache Tab->Clear Cache Now

Please also clear your cookies.

Hi,

I am wondering why would you want to set your homepage as https://www.website.ws/members/?
That's the member login form and if your visitors won't be able to get to know about business if they go here.
Not to mention you will not be credited as the referrer if they join as your username is not there.

Perhaps you have your reasons?
Anyway, you can redirect your homapage to any link, just follow the steps below:
1)login to the back office https://www.website.ws/members/
2)click on "domains" on the let menu
3)click on "change DNS"

4)choose the radio button "I want to use Automatic Forwarding Service for my domain"
5)click "continue"
6)put in the link that you want your homepage be directed to

hope that works for you. :)

I have a question, how do you get audio to upload and play on your website?

Title: Re: Site builder query
Post by: DPro on August 01, 2008, 08:35:52 PM
Hi,

It seems like the GDI website builder is under maintenance at the moment
http://sb.site-builder.ws/

If you want to add links, just go to the "html" mode in the site builder and and add this code below:

<a href="http://www.yourlink.com">This is the title of the link</a>

Replace http://www.yourlink.com with your choice of website
Replace This is the title of the link with any title

As for adding audio, do you already have an audio file?
If you do, then you need a program to create audio playback buttons on your website.
I have one which is free to use, please send me a message to get it.

I'm really hoping that you can help.

How does the 'page height' function work on the new site builder? ???

My partner is trying to rebuild the mess that our sites turned into with the introduction of this

Hope to hear back from you soon

Title: How do I edit the 404 Error page?
Post by: JudelineM on September 09, 2008, 07:50:00 AM
Where is the 404 error page and how do I edit it?   ???

I want it to re-direct to a different page, not the usual 'URL can't be found' page. I have a splash page I'd prefer to use.

I tried uploading 404.htm. Obviously that didn't work. Didn't expect it to, but I was hoping it was that stupidly simple. No such luck.

I know how to do it in GoDaddy, but haven't even looked at it in GDI, until now.

Thank you in advance for your help,
Judeline

Hello,

A couple of weeks back I lost my hard drive. Bummer huh? Well I hadn't gotten everything backed up when that happened.

My question is I am using site builder to maintain my web site and had files stored there. I would like to get them back on my hard drive so that I can edit them. How can I download them back to my pc?

Thanks

Hi Bill,

If you are using the site builder, your files are in the GDI server (your account)
Just login to the site builder page to edit them.

I am not too sure if you can download the files to your hard drive if you are using the sitebuilder.
This only works for the hosting option.
I suppose you can copy and paste the HTML codes from the site builder to edit them in your computer.

Post by: DPro on September 12, 2008, 08:05:50 PM
Yes, you can use the sitebuilder to create webpages for any product and services.
However there has seems to be some glitches in the site builder program recently, so you may want to wait until all have been resolved.
Or you could choose the hosting option and use any third party html editor (like frontpage or NVU) to upload your website.

Title: I can i use Google Webmaster with a website built in sitebuilder?
Post by: CandaceSaunders on September 30, 2008, 02:57:13 PM

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Your Title</TITLE>
<META name="verify-v1" content="String_we_ask_for">
</HEAD>
<BODY>

or 2) I can upload an HTML file the way they say as follows:

Please help, I've been at this for a week!!
Candace

Title: Disappearing Act - What is Happening to my changes?
Post by: Callie C on November 13, 2008, 09:47:21 AM
I've spent the last 3 evenings adding content to my website.  After each change I click "OK" at the bottom of the editor, and then "Save" on the sidebar thingy to save my changes.  When the changes load up nothing but the original content is saved.  I have not published the page, I'm just trying to add additional content, pictures and text, while also hyperlinking the pictures and some of the text.

Anyone know why the added content disappears when you save it?  I'm still in the trial period, is full functionality of the editor restricted until after the 7 day trial period?  Maybe I've used up too much space with my picture files?  Anyone have any answers/suggestions?

I have been trying to build my website for the last 7 days.  Site Builder is a very simple web builder, but it is giving me a real headache.  I got my webpage finished off TWICE already.  Saved it, previewed it, puglished it.  When I previewed it, Perfection.  After I published it, I opened a new browser and viewed it - Perfection.  Loved it.  Now here I am, 7 hours later and the site has turned to crap.  My pictures are gone except for 1.  The links are still there, but what the heck is going on?

This is the Second time I've done this and both times the same problem.  What is causing this?  I joined for the website and hosting, not for the "program".  If the site building and hosting is this much trouble, then it's too much trouble.  Help, Help, Help.

Never mind.... I spent a few more hours and finally got the job done.  Check out my site at http://www.calliesflowers.com   ;D
I also discovered that if you log into the website from a secure work intranet, such as the one I work at, then many features on some webpages are blocked by the network.  The pictures on my website have hyperlinks to products from the Linkshare and Google affiliate networks... My work intranet was blocking those.  But otherwise the site turned out great.

After my site is published, can I add additional content and re-publish?

Hi,
I just spent the better part of 3 hours adding text to the Site builder. I had to go pick up my daughter from school so I saved everything per the directions, logged of and shut off my computer.
I was gone maybe 40 minutes when I logged back on and went to Site builder I could preview what I had done but it would not let me enter into the text editor.
I tried numerous times finally it let me in. Guess what? no text to edit. I did save my text to a word doc. before I logged off so I tried cutting and pasting into the text editor and it gave me a pop up with very confusing directions on how to get word doc. into text editor. I have used 3 different WYSIWYG editors and have never had a problem cutting and pasting text into them.
I searched the site builder query for an answer but it seems that everyone here is new to this just like me...I only saw one person posting that was trying to help.
Please find someone to help all us poor lost souls. Without being able to use the tools available most of us won't be able to get up and running. :'(

Hi Everyone!

Love the  GDI marketing plan. I just can't get my web site to act right. I have called Customer support allot.  I think they hate me! Here is the deal.
I start on my 1st. and only page. Get it lined up. Hit the save button.  Go to the 4.01 page. preview. Come back to the edit page. Everytime I come back to the edit page it all moves.  So I re correct!  Re aline the realine. Save it. Preview. Come back to the edit page and it has all moved again. I re correct the re correct of the correction of the re alighnment of the original alighnment. Save! Come back to the edit page and it moves out of alignment again. Been working on this problem for a week solid. Support says it is not their server or site builder. I have used 6 different computers this week alone in hopes of correcting the issue. Happens on every computer. All 6!  So either I have benn on 6 crapy computers or something is not right somewhere.

I have used my lap top, my desk top pc, my friends supper computer ( $3000. plus) the public library, a computer at the University Of Memphis, and a another friends office computer.

Somebody tell me what I should do next! Please!  Dell says my Demintion 2400 xp Home Addition is just fine. They took control for a moment and did a complete scan and system update.  Everything checked out OK!

Is it me or is something wrong. Am I the only one having these problems? I have three websites on Homestead and have never had this much of a problem!

Regards,

James

Yes it should be available. Your passwords should not change.

If you are unable to login, the problem may will be in the cookies or your cache.

Please clear your system cache if the problem persists.
This is good practice in any event and needs to be done once a month at least.
In Internet explorer click on Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Temporary Internet Files -> Delete Files
In Firefox click on Tools->Options->Cache Tab->Clear Cache Now

Hi all website building gurus, I got a problem with website builder.

Has anybody else made same experience:
when I'm viewing my site with IE, everything seems to be OK,
except some empty space below I can't get rid of.
But when I'm viewing it with FF, there are broken paragraphs.
I deleted the site three times and built it again - nothing helps.

What may be wrong with it?

I know it´s possible since I´ve seen others have it on their website. Please could you reply on how to set up those two things on your website (I´m using sitebuilder)
I apreciate the help!

Title: Widgets
Post by: HelenW on February 14, 2009, 09:23:27 AM
Hi there
Does anyone know how to put widgets from outside the sitebuilder onto my website?  I have put the html code in as you would a banner, and when I click for a preview the widget comes up.  But when I click 'ok' to put it onto my website, it only comes up as a small empty box.

I really hope I'm not having a blonde moment!!  ;D

Best Wishes to all
Helen

Title: Hi I'm new and have a question about building my site
Post by: MitchHoward on March 10, 2009, 06:24:55 AM
I have started using the web site builder to build up my first page. But I can't figure out how to put the thing in were it has them actually sign up for GDI. You know? Like when you go to my page theres no navigation for them to actually sign up. I think I'm just missing something but I don't know how to do it.

I'm new and somewhat familiar with templates.  I think I just need a navigation tip here. I want to place a link or two in the left hand margin of a page, below where the user would see my .ms email address and my phone number as a part within the template. How do I access that space ?

Title: Does anyone else have to log on to their website?
Post by: M_Burnett on April 07, 2009, 10:31:27 PM
I know you have to log into the back office and all that, but does anyone else have to log into a site they have built themselves using an html editor and an ftp file loader? I am in the process of building my site but every time I go to check my changes or whatever it asks me to log in. This is very annoying as I don't know why this happens. When I first started using this method to build my site I did not have to log on just to check the changes I had made. If anyone can help or I have been unclear please respond.

Title: How do I add a link to my website directing visitors to sign up?
Post by: DGower on April 14, 2009, 06:47:47 AM
Hi, I am in the process of creating my website (have very little experience haha) and I need to know if there is a way to link users to sign up from your website. The way I signed up, was that I viewed somebody elses .ws site, was sold on their pitch, and clicked their link saying "click here to sign up for your 7 day free trial". I clicked it it brought me to the page where i viewed the presentation, I registered and became their referral.

so my goal here is to create a link to direct users to the sign up page, but at the same time making sure I get credit for referring them.

any help?

Hi!  My name is Kathy and I am new to GDI. I've been trying to work on my website (a personal retail site) but the more I read about the website design on the forum, the more confused I get! I have just one question now (and I'm sure many more later)- can the image on the header of the template be changed or do we have to take what we get on the template? I'm trying to figure out how to customize this for businesses in town.

Thanks!

Hi Linda, Login, scroll down left side menu to your Registered Domain name, click on it, go through the process ie, choose..Site Builder, next page Build My Website, your website pages will appear, then click on Edit for your chosen page..always save and then publish your work. Hope this helps..All the best Dave

Hi Kathy, I don't think you can change the templates if you have chosen the Site Builder, if you choose Basic Hosting then you can do your own thing..

Hi, First of all choose the link you would like your visitors to go to, get them from left hand menu after login, click on My Replicated sites.., here is an example of how your link would look
<a href="http://website.ws/kvmlm2/ws.dhtml?sponsor=YOURGDIUSERNAME&template=2" target="_blank">Get a 7 Day Free Trial</a>
If you edit your page in Design View, you can type in the text you want your visitors to see first, then highlight the text, choose the link button from the top of the editor, and a window will pop up where you can put the URL to your link and also choose to have the link open in a new window..Hope this helps..All the best Dave

Hi Gareth, When you are editing your page, make sure you are viewing the editing in source view (options can be found at bottom of page editor), this is where all the html goes, if you have the page in design view it will just show exactly what you have pasted there.

Signed up for GDI (one week ago) and went to start putting a web site together and I keep getting a black page and it goes no further then this after clicking on the web site builder icon.  I think I've done everything correctly, i.e., setting up the server through GDI's, but am not making progress.  Help? :-[ If this is posted somewhere else and I can read it just send me the link.  Appreciated.

Great start to your website.  Looking forward to the finished product.  Two things I noticed.  The image does not appear on the homepage and on your GDI page, your url is not hyper-linked.  Make sure you do that, so that your visitors can just click through.  Most will not copy and paste to see what you have going on.  Again, great start!

Title: Can I build website using Sitebuilder offline?
Post by: Bruce Mitchell on June 12, 2009, 04:35:30 AM
When using the Sitebuilder wizard, I was unable to build the site without publishing it online.
Can I build my site using the Wizard and sitebuilder, test it out, edit and check it while my GDI link is URL forwarding to another URL?
When I am finished, I then want to switch from URL forwarding and publish my new site.
I can't see how to do this.

For those who have read previous post on this thread, I said that I thought it would be neat to have the G.D.I. video on my site. I found the HTML code for this video! If you do not know how to put it on your site, all you need to do is create a new text box and paste this into the source window, Here it is:

Title: Re: Can I build website using Sitebuilder offline?
Post by: Bruce Mitchell on June 14, 2009, 10:46:25 AM
When using the Sitebuilder wizard, I was unable to build the site without publishing it online.
Can I build my site using the Wizard and sitebuilder, test it out, edit and check it while my GDI link is URL forwarding to another URL?
When I am finished, I then want to switch from URL forwarding and publish my new site.
I can't see how to do this.
I am stuck as is one of my downline. We want to use our.ws site to forward to another URL and not just "park", until our site built by Sitebuilder is ready. Can anyone answer this query?

Title: GDI SITE BUILDER Won't Respond on My Computer
Post by: HagiwaraT on June 16, 2009, 03:40:50 AM
I am completely new to GDI signing in two weeks ago going about this at a very primitive grass roots level, i.e., internet marketing, advertising for a GDI downline, building a web site through GDI, going out on the internet and basically selling myself, essentially learning a completely different way of going about existing is what it really comes down to here having ONLY rudimentary computer skills. I'm talkin' really rudimentary here, almost like an eighty year-old woman trying to bronc a very ornery Brahman bull.

I wouldn't have started a new post if I only knew where to start looking for help in this forum and yes, I have contacted support, twice in fact, but to no avail when their suggestions were implemented and didn't work.

Here's my problem:

Can someone direct me to getting assistance on how to get my computer to respond to GDI's SITE BUILDER?  I have been struggling with this for damn near two weeks now and when I go into the DNS and click on SITE BUILDER which would ordinarily take you to the SITE BUILDER page, all I keep getting is a black page on my screen and my computer will not respond any further than this.  I've tried everything, I've downloaded Adobe Flash Player successfully based on Supports suggestion, I've download Shock Wave Adobe, I've gone into my settings to make sure the 'customized' settings were correct from the 'Security' tab, I have tried everything to get this SITE BUILDER going to no avail.

I am using Windows with Firefox as my browser.  All I need are links within this forum from anyone who has had similar difficulties getting SITE BUILDER to respond on their computer or any info that can get me into the SITE BUILDER so I can start taking advantage of this 10 dollar a month domain fee for GDI.  It has to be something frustratingly simple I am missing here, that's usually the case, the simplicity just blows right by you.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the tips or direction.

I personally do not use the sitebuilder.  However, I think the problem may be Firefox.  Try going in using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.  Just a suggestion.

Title: Question on website backgrounds?
Post by: S_Hopson on June 27, 2009, 10:52:09 PM
Hello, I joined GDI mostly to create a couple of websites of my own.  I went to "Build your Website" in the main page.  it only has a few website templates that you can use.  The template website backgrounds are not the backgrounds I had in mind.  Can I download templates or backgrounds of my own from my computer?  How do I do that?

Hello everyone,  I join GDI mainly for the services.  I have the following questions before I get more involved in the business:

1) I am trying to build 2 websites.  One for my online store and one for my non-profit organization.  Does GDI have the online website builder capability?

2) Can I create pages such as a contact form with autoresponder, online store with payment capabilities, flash intros, etc?

3? Can I add a guestbook page?

4) Is GDI mainly for the moneymaking or can you really build websites?

Thanks.

Hi!  Yes, you can do all of those things with your GDI website.  There is a site builder available which you will find on your website.ws login page (they just added a few more nice looking templates too).  You can place a contact form on your page, you just need to get the code from your autoresponder service.  You can add a guestbook, flash intros/videos...it is a real website.

Good luck in creating your sites and post them when you are finished or if you need any suggestions so we can all have a look!

Hi all. I have been a member for over 2 months. I have been trying to build my website. This is my first time building one. All members of my upline sent emails right away welcoming me and offering help if I needed it...I have spent the last 2 and a half months asking for help but all I have gotten in response is automated emails that have NOT helped me one bit! Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. I also have another question. I have read almost all of the forums and it seems there are alot of helpful upline people out there...can I switch to one of them? I'm truly lost and frustrated at the moment. I am about to pay for my third month of fees and still haven't been able to get this up and running and I REALLY want to! Thanks in advance for the help!  ;D

Hi Jon,

Can you describe what errors you see when using the site builder?
From my experience, try the following:
  • use internet explorer as your browser
  • make sure pop ups blocker is turned off
  • close other web editor (if you are running any)

Send me a private message if you still have problems.
If you can provide some screen shots or error messages that will be great.

Title: Have Question about Hosting
Post by: DClary on August 30, 2009, 11:19:12 AM
I hope I am putting this in the right place, if not please forgive me and point me in the right direction. I have been a user of GDI for almost 5 years, I have 3 domains, all being hosted. I have never really had a problem until now and needless to say I am way outside of my comfort zone. Here is what I am trying to do....

I am trying to install ProFolio on my server - following is the directions I received from the makers of ProFolio....

Install Instructions

1.  Open up the file config.php and change the Databse Host, Username, Password and Name information to your own values.

2. Upload the folder ProFolio to your website (You can also upload the files within the folder into your website's root directory).

3. Direct your browser to the folder. For example, if your website is http://website.com, then to access your the folder, go to http://website.com/ProFolio or if you installed the files in the root directory of your website, you would access the page by just going to http://website.com

4. Follow the install instructions presented. When you have pressed the Finish button, you can Login to your ProFolio in the top-right corner of the page. Once logged in, you can edit your general settings by clicking Change Settings & Pages or customize your ProFolio by clicking Customize!

Unfortunately, I cannot make it to #2 because I keep getting the error message, "Host '64.70.19.52' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server".  I have no idea what this means or how to fix it.

In addition, I am not 100% sure that I changed the config file correctly. This is what I entered, maybe someone could advice me on this...

$host = "ftp.hosting.ws";
$db_username = "dclary";
$db_password = "xxxxxx";
$database = "localhost"; (I wasn't sure what to put here so I tried "local host" as well as my directory)

If you need any further information please let me know.

I decided make some changes to my website and chose a different template (the home based business template).  Once it saved over I tried to delete my phone and email icons that had appeared under the flash banner but not only did the icons disappear - images in all other pages of the website builder disappeared.  How to I get them back.  I have signed out and back in and tried to select the template again but its not working.

I'm not familiar with html or anything else to do with websites for that matter.  I could really use someone's help.

Thanks.

Since GDI will not support mysql, I signed up for mysql database hosting elsewhere.
I could not get joomla (hosted here) to connect to the mysql database (hosted elsewhere)
I tried a handful of free mysql hosts and could not connect using any of them.  I had all the
correct info.
Has anyone had any success with this?

You would need to use the hosting option and upload it via FTP, and then link to it.

Hi James,

The Site builder is for those who have no experience in building websites. Its a more simple way to get a website online. And no, it does not cost extra.

JashanpreetSingh,

Re your query, as I remember, you have to first "create a Page' in SiteBuilder.  Enter all the required information. Then as the wizard takes you through the sitebuilding, it will throw up a box that says "add text" along with one that says "add images"

Click the "add text" box and you will be presented with another larger box that says again "add text".  Paste your code in this box.

You will be able to edit the text, see the source code, and do a preview of how it will look.

The source code will look different from what you paste in, since Sitebuilder uses its own protocols, but you can tweek it. If you can do your own code it should not be too difficult, but it will try your patience and sometimes your ingenuity.

When you log into the site builder, the first page you see is the page manager.  Just change the numbers in the box next to the page you want to change and click update pages.

Antonio!!  Have you looked at all the other post's in this category? If there is nothing here that will help you then you need to outsource having a web page built and then use the hosting on the domain.  If you can use html coding you can build the page that you want and then use it for advertising.  I don't believe you can change the code for the pages provided here that you can use with the web builder.

I'm sorry I can't help you more.

Title: Re: Site builder query
Post by: VParker on January 18, 2010, 09:56:56 AM
Hi Antonio.  You could build your mother's page using any number of free website building software that is available.  One would be BlueVoda.  It's quite easy to use and requires you to have no knowledge of HTML.  Simply do a search for BlueVoda and you will find their website building software.

With that you will also need to change your DNS setting to Hosting.  Simply go to your GDI back office, click on domains and under the website you wish to modify click on "Change DNS" and change it to "Hosting".

You will then need an FTP client to upload your new pages to the server.  There are many free ones available, just do a search for FTP client or FTP program.  I use one called Core FTP Lite and it works quite well.  Whatever FTP client you use, you will need the Host/IP/URL for GDI.  That is "ftp.hosting.ws" without the quotes.  Then just enter in your username and password and it should be good to go.

So, first thing will be to download a website building program.  Once you do that create the page you want and get it looking the way you want.  Then change you DNS setting for your website to "Hosting".  Grab yourself an FTP client and be sure to enter "ftp.hosting.ws" without the quotes in the Host/IP/URL field and put in your GDI username and password.  Then all you have to do is navigate to where your new pages are stored on your computer and drag them over to your GDI site.  Hit upload and you are finished!

One final note, the first page of your website should be called index.html.

Hope this helped and was not confusing.  Good luck and let us know if you run into any problems.  :)

Title: building mY new website
Post by: John Reason on January 25, 2010, 02:54:06 AM
Hi there,

I was half way through the Build Website wizard when I went back a step or two to alter the font of some text and then it would not return to the page I was on.  I think that it has saved what I did, and it's showing as "published" in WS Sitebuilder 4.02  but I don't know whether it is suitable for viewing yet, or what to do next .I created a Menu page and then a Feedback page and a Guestbook page.  When I put the url in for my site into my tab browser it seems to go straight to the Feed back page, not the "Main Menu" home page I created.  Any ideas on how I can go back and fix the site, or can I delete it and start again? (I have created an email to go with this site)

Ok John, go to the members area-click on the build my website tab-when the outline for the site comes up look and see what the numbers are for you're Main page, this should be page # 1 if not just click on the update page and change you're #s to show in numerical order the way you want them to appear, also when you use you're url any where to advertise the you can type the url to send people where you want them to go if you type http://you'rewebsite.ws/menue or what ever page you want them to land on as long as it is the title of that page,
Hope this helps you

How do i add YouTube videos to my WS?

Title: Re: Site builder query

How do i add YouTube videos to my WS?
Well here is youtubes answer to you're question:
The Basics
How do I add a video to my blog or web page?

   1. You'll need to edit the HTML of your blog entry or page—this should be relatively straightforward. In Blogger, for example, just click the "Edit HTML" tab.
   2. Next, go to the video that you want, and look for the 'Embed' box in the "About This Video" section. Copying the HTML code that's there into your website will create an embedded player; the video will play within your site when the user clicks on the 'Play' button.
   3. You can resize the player by editing the object width="425" and height="350" fields at both the beginning and end of the embedded player code. Make sure that the sizes you choose have the same ratio as the default numbers, so that the video doesn't get stretched—just multiply the width by 0.8235 to get the height.
After you get the HTML code copied go to the members area, click on build my site go to the editor, click the text tab, right click ,click on the add hyperlink and paste the HTML in the text link at the bottom, click OK and put it on the page where you want it.
Hope this helps you out.
Eddie

Hello,

How can I use my .ws domain and hosting service to host a wordpress blog?

Anyone have any experience setting this up?  Please let me know.

Thanks,

Ryan, I don't think you can host a WordPress blog with a .ws domain. According to their FAQ
Quote
Do you support software that requires databases (such as MySQL)?
The WS Hosting service does not support sites, software or scripts that require databases.

So that pretty well means not blog, forum or anything else than needs MySQL.  >:(

Oh well. Reckon I will have to host it elsewhere.

Hi!

I wanted a blank template as well... I couldn't see any way of doing it.

Also, I noticed, when I wanted to check that opt in worked that my email address didn't fit, that is a bit daft, if I was a client it means you wouldn't get my info!

One more thing whilst I'm at it, does anyone know how to add video and photos? I tried to upload a photo and is messed up my entire site making everything jumbled :(

In general I'm happy with GDI although I have no sign ups yet... lots of people have clicked on the like (close to 1000 now) but no takers.

Take care everyone and good luck!

Emma :)

Hi Everyone,

There doesn't seem to be enough space for my email address in the opt in tool (you know, the admit one ticket stub people fill in which can be found in the GDI tools in the website builder). I wanted to check it but my email address won't fit! Can anyone help with this? It'll be a problem for business if people can't get access. (FIXED, THANKS!)

Also, I have put a guestbook page and just want to make sure that the people who leave comments won't get emails from GDI?

Thanks!

Emma :)

my suggestion is to point your .ws domain to one of the replicated capture pages, host an actual blog somewhere else and provide links on your blog leading to your capture page. People join people they know, like and trust. Your blog will allow you to brand yourself, get in touch with your readers and give them a reason to follow you. You will become known as someone your prospects can get to know, like and trust. Offer value.

Title: PROBLEMS EDITING TEXT
Post by: Chris_Craig on March 28, 2010, 02:12:50 PM
Hi Guys

I've just started to build my website and have already come across a problem I'm hoping you can solve.

I spent an hour or so typing in the text box, checked everything was ok (it was) and saved my work. When I went to preview it, the text had jumped up to the top of the page. I went back in and moved the text box back to the middle of the page (I used the 'Move Me' box to move it down) and it wouldn't stay. It just kept going back to the top of the page!!

Any suggestions?

Chris  :o

It is better to create a website with just one theme rather than a motley of things to promote and sell?
I have heard that it is better to have just one thing to promote  as vistors just get distracted and end up leaving the site  buying nothing? What do you think?

Hello again, P_Gringel.  By the way, I love those images you include at the bottom of each post.  :)

Well, this is what I think.  It really depends on the website and what YOU want them to do.  If there is a definite action you want them to take then it would be better not to give them any other choice.

But, if you don't have a specific action you want them to take then having multiple things on the page is fine.  I'll use one of my blogs as an example.  On most of my pages there is a sidebar that says "Other network marketing resources".  I only list 5 resources but each of those get visitors regularly.  Which is what I want.

But then there are other pages where I definitely want them to take a specific action.  For instance, I want them to opt into my list or something.  In that case, that is the ONLY option I give.  And I even make it extremely obvious what it is I want them to do.  For instance, I might have a big red arrow pointing to the form where I want them to put their information.

So, it really depends on what YOU want them to do on that given page.  If you definitely want them to go to one specific place, don't give them any other choice.  But if you don't have a definite action you want them to take on that page, giving a person options is fine.

There's my opinion, hope it helps!  :)

Title: Re: Site builder query

Why can't we access the SiteBuilder?  I came back to GDI, was a member a long time ago.  I discontinued it.  They have now made some wonderful changes.  That is why I came back!  Now I can't access what I am paying for.  I am still on the trial, it that why or is a system glitch.  I am doing the Learning Bonus.  I click on the link and it takes me to My Domains.  Then if I click on Build Your Website, it shows the SiteBuilder Robot Image Page and then after 3 seconds the page changes to My Domains Page, not giving access to SiteBuilder.  This was the whole reason I wanted this package, fo SiteBuilder.  How do you complete your Learning Bonus if the site will not give you access to the tasks required to get the bonus?  How do I promote this and just offer domain and hosting, and not offer this site builder and justify the cost?  Doesn't make me very confident in promoting GDI, can someone fix this?  This is a great opportunity, if you have the tools you were supposed to receive with the package!  How do you ever hit a bonus if they are unrealistic and you can't achieve them because the website has a glitch that will make them unattainable.  Some one Please help.  I have already referred 3 people in 2 days.  I have integrated this with another business I have, so they join this as part of a package.  I will have sign-ups every day! I just don't want my name attached to a business that does not deliver what we are selling!  Hope Someone has an answer, haven't had 1 question answered by support and have placed multiple support tickets.  Thanks if you can help!

This is great information. Every time your access link is tapped. It changes the type of landing page. Test and see the amazing technology we are given. There is a place that you can just copy&paste it goes out to over 1,000 locations without anything else. Do this 3 times a day. No telling what will happen. Based on your own efforts.

Pass this information to everyone in your group.
