Chip,
Constructive requests, new vs old. I need help with the new sitebuilder. I was just learning to use the old sitebuilder successfully now I'm lost. And of course I was in the middle of a project when the change came.

How can I get back to old saved blocks to edit? My old blocks still publish but when I go to the new everthing is scrambled or missing.
How or where do you log off?
Is there a glossery or something to help us beginners find our way through. The help menu doesn't lead to solutions. Just need some help, please?

Mike

So far I am totally unhappy with the new webbuilder.  I typically update my website quite often and when I logged onto the new builder I discovered my site was a complete mess.  After a little bit of playing around with it I thought I had it figured out and sat there for a good couple hours rebuilding my home page.  I saved my work, previewed it, it looked ok, but when I published it all that showed up was the first text box.  Everything else had just dissapeared.  Thankfully I had everything back up on notebook.  Anyway this is day 2 of just trying to fix my homepage and I am about fed up.  I used the old sitebuilder since I signed up to ws with no problems, only thing I would have changed was the 4000 character limit.  Also, it won't let me put in my own google ads etc., everytime i put in the html it is replaced with <div></div>.  Anyway I used the sitebuilder for convience, but I guess I am going to have to start using the hosting option if I can't get the new builder to cooperate.

I like being able to move content and close the gaps between the content blocks.  However, the button that is supposed to reduce the height of the page doesn't do anything.  I can't get rid of the big block of white space at the bottom.

The thing that really bothers me is that my page doesn't fit in the browser window any more.  It is apparently set for only one screen resolution and will not resize.  I'm using 1024 x 768, and the page does not fit in the window.  There is nothing you can do about it, because you cannot change the size of the header (with the page title, slogan, and links).

In Internet Explorer, if you maximize the window to try and see all the content, it disappears completely until you refresh the page!

Pages that I have not edited with the new editor automatically resize to fit in the browser window using either Firefox or IE.

I waited 3 days for the editor to get updated so I could make some needed changes, but now that I've changed one page I'm afraid to do any more until the problems get fixed.
I have turned in some bug reports.  Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

We are now not able to put our videos on here that we made on you tube.

Well at least I have not been able to.

Is this because of copyright issues?

I prefer the old builder. Do we have an option that allows us to use the old builder?

Title: the new site builder has a few flaws
Post by: DavidFox on August 08, 2008, 02:58:05 PM
While using the site builder if you hit save you still need to hit the go back button so the actual content you are working will be saved to be published. If you do not select the go back button even though you used save all the content will be lost. I think this should be fixed so once the save button in initiated all content is automatically saved and the person then has another button to publish it right then and there automatically. As some people computers have glitches or they may lose their connection any variety of reasons this would be appropriate for the work they are putting in promoting this business.

Also on the content blocks, all html banner ads should be automatically displayed just by copy and paste.

And on the content blocks if you have too many in a row the select properties to edit one it sometimes throws it into a different section of the site and the only thing to do is to delete it and start over.

Hi;

April Lowe here, I see by the replies already submitted that I'm not the only one having trouble with the new site builder.  I agree that it's slow and aggravating.  I formerly suspected my dial-up connection being the problem.  I've been trying to revise my homepage since Monday.  Now, it's Friday, and I still haven't accomplished anything.  I know when you build something new, you have to work out some bugs which is why you asked for our input, but what was wrong with the old one?  Haven't heard "if it's not broken, don't fixi it?  I know I'm not the only one that would like the old one back.  Forgive me, but the new site builder has the nature of a vacume.

 ???

The new site builder is probably intended to be less intimidating and more user friendly for first timers based on its cartoonish appearance.
However, the old version was more along the lines of more professional web creation tools as it was "Word" based.

Everyone knows how to use MS Word or other word processing software. You can't get simpler than that.
Plus more advanced users were able to insert and edit HTML code.

It may not look as fun, but is much more familiar to the average user. Most GDI members aren't here for fun anyway.
This is a business oriented customer base.

The graphics look like they are geared towards kids, not business minded adults. Besides, most kids are more computer savvy than adults.
The graphic interface only slows things down. Personal "fun" websites come with most ISP packages anyway, and they all use a word processor based
site building tool with optional advanced features.

I would definitely appreciate the option to choose between SiteBuilder versions.

Last, but not least, I use a Mac. The vague help pages say to "right click" for editing, but Macs don't have a right button and the standard "control click"
substitute doesn't seem to work.

Chip- The new system has a whole lot of problems. Wish the programmers had worked the bugs out before releasing it. But worse than that, my meta tags don't show up in my source code now and security is gone. Already someone has added their copyrights to my work. Guess I don't have to go on. You can go to my site at http://johnsprague.ws and see for yourself. Hope the developers will straighten this mess out for me and I suspect for just about everyone else!   my email is johnsprague3@hotmail.com

I just returned from vacation yesterday and was thrilled to see that the new sitebuilder has been introduced as I've been eagerly awaiting its arrival.  However, I've just tried to play around with it and have had a frustrating time.

My main concern with the previous sitebuilder (apart from the limit to the text block size) was the limited selection of templates.  Where are the new ones? I still can only access the original selection eventhough the info talks about business and nature designs.  Are the new templates only available if you are creating a website for the first time or have they just not been added yet?

Can anyone else access the new templates?  My sites both have the max of 10 pages, so I can't create a new page to see what happens.

I guess we all have to guess what you are doing about our problems.

You have made it difficult to use our websites.

Don't we deserve some information about how we can use them again?

Should we use a different company that will give us information about using the product we are paying for each month?

GDI, you did not improve things for most of us, in fact you have done just the reverse.

Yes, I am having the same problems everyone else is here.  Hours upon hours working and tweaking only to loose all the placement and have everything slip off the page.  And the humongous page size issue, too.  I am new to GDI and my only experience with the GDI site builder is with the new version.

Can you recommend a beginner-friendly (I know only basic html) template site (hopefully free or low cost) that I can use to build a site and import to the GDI server?  Can anyone please advise me?

Thanks!
Roxanne

So........

Is there any possibility we could get some word on when all this will be fixed?

Or should we just forget the builder and start from scratch?

Hi There,

It appears I am not the only one having problems with the new sitebuilder.  This is frustrating!!  I was in the middle of creating and building momentum with my website, now it is all over the place??    I was not advised this was taking place, how about some advance warning instead of the abrupt disruption! When is this likely to be resolved?
On the positive side I do like the fact that the new site allows you to click and drag and fill in the white spaces but a tutorial would definately help!!

Title: Website Builder 4.01
Post by: CAntonio on August 13, 2008, 03:46:22 PM
Greetings all,

I have been a member of GDI for over 2 years now. I was very pleased with our previous W/S Builder, but I am very excited with the 4.01 version, it has fantastic tools and functionality...congratulations to all those who are responsible for it's birth, however, and here comes the crunch. I wonder if someone here can throw any light on the issue I am finding which is:

I have built my Home page with the equivalent of  8 A4 pages when printed. I have built my Home page 4 times already, have enjoyed doing it, and felt that each time I was forced to start all over I leaned something new, so I dare say that I am in very friendly terms with our 4.01 and all it's tools, but each time I am finished building my Home page and click the publish button, I loose all my long work. This as I said has happened 4 times now, so I will not attempt anymore until I get some answers. To make it very clear; my problem is simply and only at the publishing stage, and of course while at the building stage I save the work often.

Has anyone had the same issues?

Can somebody help explaining why this is happening?

Could I be doing or not doing something that is causing this?  ???

Cheers for now.

Antonio.  :)

I am new to GDI and I have unsuccessfully been able to do anything with this version of Sitebuilder.   Simple task like resizing pictures seems to be a chore.  Adding Text is not populating where I want it to populate.   Is there a new tutorial for this version?  We should have a tool that should be very simple to use.  That is one of the BIG advantages about belonging to GDI...so, we need to be able to show our members the ease of using it.

Maybe I am just going about this incorrectly.

The "resize" function on one of my text blocks is locked now, and I can't get it back to normal.
All the text is now in a little column on one side of the page.

Also, any page edited with the new version has all the keywords and description deleted, so you have to re-enter them.

Hi again

To update on the above please see below:

I fnally found out how to overcome the issues I was having with the new Ws/Builder version 4.01, in regards to publishing the work done.

(1)What I don't do now:

While still building/work I now donnot click on "save" on the floating interface menu and then the "Go Back" button

(2)How I am doing it successfully now, but small amounts at a time:

I now, while working with the site builder do not use the save. I only click on the "Go Back" on the floating interface menu button, then click "OK." Doing this will take  me back to "Pages" or (the Site Builder Home Base), and once there I just click on "Publish" and it is 100% Ok this way.

I have gone back and tried it again as in option (1) as above and got the same result, lost everything once the publish button was hit or things got so scrambled up that I might as well have lost it. Sitebuilder version 4.01 is very nice to use, but it is highly unstable at the moment. I hope the techs will come to grips with it and get it working as smooth as was intended. It is a bit of a pain in the but as it is!

Cheers.

Antonio.

It's worth noting that the Support Department does not respond to posts in this forum - if you have issues  you want them to address then you should contact Support directly.

Here is the reply I received on aug 12 from Support when I asked about new templates and commented that there were lots of issues being raised in the forum about v4:

===================== Reply begins ==============

Thank you for your email. In response to the issues you are
experiencing:

1. Our new templates are not currently available. Once we have worked
out all of the technical bugs in the new SiteBuilder, we will begin
releasing the updated templates we have previously mentioned.

2. Since the release of the new SiteBuilder, our support department has
been inundated with telephone calls and emails regarding the subject.
Unfortunately, this then delays our standard response time; this may
cause some of our Affiliates to feel that posting on the Forum will
resolve their issues. All of the issues that you have mentioned that are
listed in the Forum we have received emails or call for as well. In
reply:

> While we are corking out technical bugs, it is considerably easier for
our technical department to work on the program while it is hosted on
slower servers. This is more efficient for all parties involved, and we
apologize for the slow loading time that you may have to deal with while
the program is being smoothed out.

> Global Domains International has never offered tutorials nor guides on
how to utilize our services; we feel that they are relatively self
explanatory, and the "Help" or FAQ section will suffice. If there are
additional issues not addressed there, Affiliates may contact our
support department for further assistance.

> Wide width is an error that is currently being worked on by our
technical department. We hope to have this issue resolved soon.

> We intentionally chose certain icons and designed our interface to be
more aesthetically appealing and user-friendly. We do not feel that it
is necessarily childish or juvenile.

> Updates that are not being saved is one of the larger bugs that we are
attempting to work out of the system at this time. This has been
resolved to an extent; we are seeing more cases of updates actually
saving, however we are still working to come to a full and complete
resolution regarding this issue.

> Meta tags, keywords, and descriptions are no longer being removed by
our system. If you enter this information and it disappears, the update
ay not have saved correctly, or the information may not have been
entered correctly.

These issues are all errors that our technical department did not
foresee when the new SiteBuilder was pushed live; the migration process
for sites built in SiteBuilder 3.0 to the new version has run into a
number of roadblocks that we did not believe would be an issue;
unfortunately, these things became issues.

3. There are currently no plans to reinstate or allow access to our
prior version of SiteBuilder; to have to migrate all info back to that
program at this time would cause further frustration, as Affiliate
websites would, once again, be in shambles. We will work out each bug in
the new system as they come along, and make updates to the system as
appropriate.

4. While the issues you mentioned were the main issues, there were many
more thoughts, ideas, and suggestions from a wide gamut of our
Affiliates. In an effort to offer a program that would entice current
customers and give them something they could be proud to promote, we
took all suggestions into account. To update the old SiteBuilder with
all of these ideas would have been impossible, without rolling out a new
version of the program. Your websites are important to us as well, and
as mentioned, we did not anticipate the errors and issues that we are
currently dealing with; everything was planned to simply release the new
SiteBuilder and have it fully functional immediately. Unfortunately, our
system simply rejected the updates and information in the upgrade.

We appreciate your input, and will gladly forward your thoughts on to
the appropriate department. We feel that as we continue to work out the
functionality of the new SiteBuilder, all of our Affiliates will come to
appreciate the new program and the updates it includes.

==================== end of response ===============

I think it would have been useful if we had received an update from admin on the problems and how they are being tackled as it would have helped ease our frustration.  However, I hope this post will show that the issues are being addressed.

Sandra

After messing with the new builder and noticing the upgrades to it... other than it's slow to respond to commands, I can deal with it.

If you want to see how I've updated my website using it...check out my site at www.WorldWideIncome.ws

we do need more template options though...these ones are getting a bit boring. (must my 2 cents!)

Good Luck everyone!

;) Forgive me for not explaining myself in that last post...why would I start talking about building on a budget in the new web builder forum? Well, I was talking about budgeting your time. It does take a bit of time to make a website the way you really want it. Just like it's taking GDI some time to get the new web builder working smoothly. You just need a little patience.

If you see something on the site builder that isn't working, let them know about through the "help button".   :-\That's what it's there for.

;) You must realize this is a new system, and will, as we all know, have a few "bugs" in it. We can help them by letting them know how to make it better. Not all servers, or browsers work the same or translate material the same.

Just do the best you can, and if you see something wrong, let them know. It's all just a matter of time when this new builder is running smoothly.  ::)

The way I've been able to get around my problems, is to just enter the HTML code into the "source" tab at the bottom of the TEXT page. Then I go back to the design tab and fix it the way I want it. It takes a few times, I've almost given up a few times, but if you be a little patient, it'll work out. Have faith!

What do you think about domain forwarding or basic hosting? And which one would be better for me? I'd like to make my own layout now and actually make my site look and feel more like my own work.

I am totally unhappy with the new one. I fell asleep when I'm waiting for the uploading of my art images! Come on! Fix it or everyone will be leaving the WS.  Or better yet, bring the old one back and we all be happy and content.

Hello Everyone,

I am starting to find the new sitebuilder easier, however it requires a lot of trial an error.  The one thing I noticed and I hope someone has a fix for, is when you use your sitebuilder using Internet Explorer browser, you will not get the same results when you view it on Firefox. So, it gets very frustrating.

Currently, I designed my site using IE browser, I know that Firefox browser will show it differently. Can everyone check my site and provide me with feedback on what browser you are using if it doesn't come out right.

The fonts read differently on each browser. So when you start to build your site, keep that in mind. You don't want your customers to view a site that belongs to you and it looks like its not professionally done.

Any recommendations welcome...

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I tested your link but it redirects to the GDI Domain hosting link.
Did you choose the site builder option?

This is probably due to the remaining glitches in the new site builder.
Just hang on there while they fix it -- or choose the hosted option. (recommended) :)
You can download the free open source html software to build the website.

Well, I am not having any trouble at all with the new sitebuilder.  I find it much easier than the old one.
The new templates are the ones that need to be redesign to my title will show on the page.

My entire site was erased last week, and this new editor will not let me add a single page. As far as I can see this is not even close to as good as the old one. If I can't get my page back up this week I will have to write of the past two years as a huge mistake. Is there any way to find out when someone might have hacked into my office, is there a way to block someone from putting up pages, I don't know what is going on, but my editor says there is no information or pages there and will not let me post another. How can I pay for something like that?

Hey, Roxanne.  Did you get your questions answered??  I just joined myself and I need a very user friendly website builder too- preferably 'free' or very low cost too. My name is Vicki R.

Hello, I hope somebody answers my question:

How do you add text to the "Flash" part (upper part) of the template?

Thanks in advance!

I sat up till almost 4am making a new slide show to go on my site (which is actually my daughter's site as its my present to her<), She needs this to show off her new collection before christmas as she was hoping to make some sales.  However, I've now wasted another hour and a half trying to do anything with the new sitebuilder. I can't do anything except delete pages.  I hope that we are not going to have to pay our monthly fees while this problem goes on.

I should have been able to make the few changes easily. On the old sitebuilder it would have taken me about ten mintues.

Now I am unable to do anything with thee site and my daughter mentioned that there were strange things happenning with the site.

Anyone else using a Mac?  I thought that maybe this new sitebuilder doesn't work with Mac.

Regards
Mary

I've always wondered what it was like using the new website builder.  I create my websites using Frontpage and I wanted to take on the task of creating a page in the new webuilder, but did not want to take one of my sites down to experiment.

I found it very simple to use once I figured out how to navigate it.  With anything new, one has to take the time to learn it first.  Remember when you were a kid and had to learn to ride a bike before you could actually ride it?  It's the same with the New Web Builder.  You have to learn how to navigate it first.  Once you do that, you can create your websites and webpages in a snap.

On Sunday, my friend allowed me to go into her GDI sitebuilder and create a Christmas page for her.  I had zero, zilch, no problems or issues at all.

Take the time to learn and you will be just fine!

To your continued success,

Just wanted to say sitebuilder 4.02 is GREAT, loving the new site wizard.

Just one tip - don't forget to save after modifying the text - I had to rewrite a whole page that I failed to save.

Other than my stuff up I love the new templates and I'm greedy for even more.

Well done GDI team.

Why canīt I use the sitebuilder?
I payed the first 10$ and still donīt see the way to start building my website using the sitebuilder. I have asked uplines, I have sent support messages and still donīt have this solved. When I check the menu, I go to start building and there is no link to the sitebuilder.
