1  .WS Services / WebSite Development / Re: Question about developing my site on: July 09, 2012, 10:03:33 AM
Here is a good question that I have not seen yet. Not to say it isn't here, I just haven't seen it.
How on earth are we supposed to edit our sites if we do not know .php?
I just don't get it.

Wait.

You've got it all twisted up here.

You do not have to know PHP to be successful in GDI or to be able to build a website.

For starters, there are so many other back-end languages you can use for websites today. In fact, you don't even need a back-end language for your site (as long as you don't want to implement cool features).

But with the above said, you should learn it. Here's my story:

I've always been a computer geek ever since I was 8, when I received my first computer. At the age of 8-9, I experimented on the Windows OS, just working out how to do cool things, although, most of the time, I would end up breaking something and then being nice to my uncle to have him fix it for me. At the age of 10, I wanted to know how things worked. So I started looking things up, which mostly pointed to programming. At the age of 11, I started looking into web development. How websites work, both back and front-end wise. Throughout the age of 11-15, that's all I did. I made small web apps and experimented with other things, loving every second of it.

At the age of 16, I re-invented Facebook (no joke). That was my first big web application. Obviously, it wasn't as good as Facebook, but it was pretty damn close. I had all my class mates using it, and I received a nice £423 check (which I spent all on sweets and chocolate after school) through the letterbox from advertising on it.

Remember guys, I was only 16 and I had mastered PHP.

The point I'm trying to get out here is that learning a programming language is not as hard as it looks. Neither is it as complicated as most of the gurus make out.

But with that said, IMO, the only way one can truly learn programming is if they actually want to. And I don't mean for the money, I mean you have to be interested in the language and you have to be excited about the end result of the project. If you're just trying to learn PHP for example just to setup a website that will make you money, then expect to go nowhere in terms of good programming practice.

PHP is the way to go in terms of web development. It's the easiest to learn and capable of so much. But, note this: there are many security holes that can easily be opened when using PHP. So always make sure you look into things before implement it into your site/project/whatever.

So, if you haven't got the messege already: Learn it.
2  .WS/GDI Discussion / Questions & Issues / Re: About my Credit Card !! on: April 11, 2012, 04:01:23 PM
Hello,

GDI will make x (I think it's 8?) amount of attempts to charge your preferred payment method if the previous was declined (or was not successful for any reason).

So if the first attempt is not successful, they will attempt to charge your card in the following 4 days. After 8 attempts (I think it's 8), your account will go into the "invalid" status where your domain(s) will no longer be available.

You should really consider using an alternative payment method.

PayPal maybe?

Oh, and one more thing - I know you're new to GDI and this forum, but please don't make your posts all colorful. I find it quite annoying.

3  .WS/GDI Discussion / Questions & Issues / Re: can i still earn bonus? on: April 11, 2012, 04:01:23 PM
Hello,

Yes, you can.

But, with a basic account, for you to apply for the bonus contest, you must also have purchased a total of 10+ DVD's from GDI.

You should really have a good long read into this: Contest Eligibility Requirements.

141 members in 6 months isn't bad. So I think you know what to do.

Hello everybody, I'm a new member to GDI, signed in just yesterday.

I'm starting my own blog on another site, now i was wondering does anybody
know where to get the GDI Income Calculator? I would really like to have that
on my blog as people are very visually oriented...

Thanks, Tony.

Hello,

Copy this piece of code into your page:

Code:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0" WIDTH=100% HEIGHT=100%>
<PARAM NAME="movie" VALUE="http://website.ws/kvmlm2/st_calculator.swf">

</OBJECT>

Make sure you insert it as HTML and not plain text. If your using WordPress, you should just be able to click the HTML tag and insert it from there.

Happy Marketing, Newbie.

I need advise please.

I would like to configure google analytics on my website. The difficulty is I am using a site builder, web template and can't access the head tag to apply the verification code. is there a way around this so that i can verify the code once applied to my website to google analytics.

e.g

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<title>www.nameofwebsite.ws</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<link href="/files/usr/skins/Business/Home_Business_1/style/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<style>/* EDITTABLE CSS */

Cheers

Hello,

I don't have much knowledge on the Site Builder so I cant help you with that.

But, you do NOT need to place the code in the head section of the page. You may place it right at the bottom of the page if you wish. As long as the code is inserted as HTML (not standard text), then it should work fine.

So just place it somewhere in the body tag. Give it a few hours for Google to pick it up (loading the page with the script will speed things up), and it should work fine.

Google will only ask you to place some HTML in the head section if your trying to verify your site. Google Analytics does not require users to verify their site. But if your using Google Webmaster tools (or any other kind of Webmaster Tools) then you may need to place some HTML in the head section. Which hopefully, somebody else will be able to help you with.

9  .WS/GDI Discussion / Questions & Issues / Re: Question regarding cost on .ws on: February 01, 2012, 10:53:17 AM
Alright so first off I'm new so take it easy on me. Just curious after quick search I notice a site www.networksolutions.com in that I canregister .ws domains for 34.00/yr and here I'm registering for 10.00/mth??

whats the verdict?

Hello,

You may be able to register a .WS domain for that price but that does not include any type of hosting. Network Solutions offer hosting as a separate package. The cheapest hosting you can get from there is £5.81/month (which is $9.20/month).

So, If you went with Network Solutions, you'd have to pay $34 a year and almost $10/month for hosting. But with GDI, you pay $10/month and you a domain with a hosting plan.

once trial accounts joined in to your downline, will you earn atleast a little?

No.

An account with a 'Trial' status represents a user who is currently in the 7 day trial period, which means they have not paid a penny to GDI. And for that reason, you (as an affiliate) are not entitled to receive any kind of commission.

However, if the user purchases some extra goods, or another domain while on the trial period, they will still have to complete payment immediately (only for the extra products/services purchased), as the trial period only allows users to try ONE domain with Domain Privacy for 7 days, nothing else. So you will be entitled for a commission if the user makes more purchases while in the trial period.

Good Afternoon

New GDI Members will receive a 7 day free trial period for all domains as well as Premium Service and Domain Privacy selected at the time of registration. GDI members will be charged immediately for any domains or domain services added to the account after the initial registration process.

The only products that qualify for commissions earned are domains and domain services. Marketing materials under the "Order Goodies" section do not qualify for commissions.

Apologies for the false information.

When I first joined (years ago), I could only register one Domain with Domain Privacy as part of my free trial. Anything else, I'd have to pay for upfront.

Things must of changed from back then.

Again, sorry for any inconvenience I caused.

12  .WS Business / Team Building / Re: Getting started with out a credit card on: December 15, 2011, 03:00:03 PM
I have a lead who is interested in an alternative way to get started without a credit card!!!
Anyone have any ideas, clues, or suggestions for me to tell him.
I did already suggest that he may be able to get started with a PayPal account
Is this accurate??

Hello,

You may use PayPal as a preferred payment method BUT PayPal may still require a card:

When linking your GDI account to your PayPal account to authorize automatic deposits, you are telling PayPal that its okay for GDI to take X amount from your account every month. This is called Pre-Approved Payments

Depending on your lead's location (country), he/she may need a valid card associated with their PayPal account before adding any Pre-Approved payments to their account. This means they may still need a card to even use PayPal as a preferred payment method on GDI.

If your lead is in the UK, then I'm sure they will need a card to accept Pre-Approved payments. I'm not sure about any other countries though.

Also, when I say 'card' I don't mean Credit Card. This could be Debit (bank) card, Prepaid Card, Credit Card and maybe some other types.

13  .WS/GDI Discussion / General Comments / Re: Do you think your site will sell? on: December 15, 2011, 03:00:03 PM

Remember,

There's the Wordpress plugin available now, includes the GDI Blog template.

Aaron Riddell

Correct,

But like the Replicated sites, they're not very effective.

So users who post their domain with that theme and WP active, I'll primarily judge on it's content.

14  .WS/GDI Discussion / General Comments / Do you think your site will sell? on: December 12, 2011, 04:12:38 PM
I've seen so many domains out there that either redirect straight to a replicated site (lead capture page) or look like they've been created by a 5 year old (no offense).

Yet, the owners complain about their STILL progress with the affiliate program...

If your here to make money and sell, then you need to make sure your domain has the potential to do so...

Having it redirect to replicated site is not the best way to go about it.

I've seen a few recent posts on here with people moaning about how they've been an affiliate for 2+ years and yet have not made a penny...Ever wonder why?

Anyway, I'm not going to write an article here. Instead, I'm going to reply to each individual's post, and tell them what I think about their site.

And guys, I'm going to be absolutely honest, so if your site looks stupid, I will tell you.

Go ahead and post a link to your domain after you've answered the poll. Ill check it out.

Quoting Nav:

,,,,BUT, If you already have a SQL db setup somewhere else and you need to access it with your .WS (GDI hosted) domain, you will need to do it differently as there is a remote access block preventing users accessing remote SQL db's. Let me know if that's what your trying to do. I'll then explain further.
Nav

PLEASE DO EXPLAIN:

I have ftp'd WordPress to the Root of my site. But, can not install.

I have the Blog, Forum and Gallery subdomains enabled. However, I do not see the files in my ftp program. (where the heck are those and how do we get to those?)

So,
1- how do we connect to mysql from another hosting vendor
2- how so we access the subdomains and files
3- how do we access the php.ini file

Thanks in advance

If your trying to install WordPress on your GDI hosted domain, you do not need to manually upload WP files as that's what the plugin does.

As you know, WordPress requires a SQL db, which you cannot manually setup with GDI. BUT when you activate the WordPress plugin, A SQL DB will automatically be setup for you, and the WP files will again, automatically be installed on your (sub)domain.

So you do not need to manually download the WordPress files (from WordPress.org) or upload them yourself, as it all gets done automatically once you have activated the plugin.

To access content from subdomains in on your FTP program:

This is what your FTP settings should look like:

Username: GDIUSERNAME
Password: GDIPASSWORD
FTP Address: ftp.YOURDOMAIN.ws
Port:21
Root Directory: / (<< notice the "/")
Web URL: http://www.YOURDOMAIN.ws (<< notice, NO subdomains)

Check if those settings match yours configured with your FTP program. If they don't, make the appropriate changes. You should then see multiple directories (folders) on your server, each named by your sub domain, so it should look like this:

FTP:YOURDOMAIN.WS//root
blog.yourdomain.ws
somethingelse.yourdomain.ws
forum.yourdomain.ws

And you will be able to open those folders in your FTP program, and see/play with the content in them.

How do we connect to MySQL from another hosting vendor:

This all depends, If you need MySQL access for WordPress, then my answer to your question above should sort this issue out.

Short brief of how this remote DB access block works:

Users who wish to access a SQL database which is provided by one of the available plugins (WordPress, Forum, etc etc) will not have a problem, as the SQL db will be hosted on GDI's servers, therefore, it's not a 'REMOTE' DB, so the block wont effect that.

But, when a user wishes to access a SQL database, which is not hosted on GDI's servers (not part of one of the plugins), that makes the DB access 'REMOTE', therefore, the block prevents access.

Now there are ways to get around this issue, but before I explain them, I have a better solution:

If you have either the WordPress or Forum plugin installed (judging from your previous post, you do) on the domain you wish to access a SQL DB, then actually, you don't need to get a SQL db from another hosting provider as you have one setup already. And because its on GDI's servers, the block wont have any effect on it when you try to access it.

So here's what to do, if your OKAY with using the SQL db already setup for one of your plugins:

I don't know much about the Forum plugin, but once you have WordPress up and running, here's what to do:

Access the sub domain you have WP installed on, from your FTP program and look for a file called wp-config.php, once you found it, open it.

That file holds all your DB info (username, password, host, etc etc)....

Take that info, and use it as you please. Again, because that info is for a DB hosted on GDI's servers, the block wont effect it.

BUT NOTE:
There are certain security policies on this DB. So there will be somethings that you just cannot do on the DB, which you can do on a DB hosted by another provider.

NOW, If all else fails or you just simply do not want to use GDI's SQL DB for your own stuff, and you'd prefer to use one with full access, hosted by another provider:

Here's what you need:

FTP access with another domain hosted by a different hosting provider (GoDaddy maybe?)
of course, access to the SQL.
A text editor (notepad) OR better, a Web DEV program such as Dreamweaver, or some kind of application that supports PHP checkup.

The steps: (I'm going to use GODADDY for this example)

1.) Create a new .php file and name it access.php, then save that on the ROOT of your GoDaddy server.
2.) Create a folder on the ROOT of your GoDaddy server, called DB_INFO (or whatever you want).
3.) Create another .php file called db.php and save it in the DB_INFO folder.
4.) In db.php, copy and paste this :

Quote
$db_host = DB_HOST;
$db_user = DB_USER;
$db_password = DB_PASSWORD;
$db_name = DB_NAME;

Replace the bold stuff with your own DB info, then save the file again. (make sure you re-upload it on your server if your working on it locally)

5.) Open up notepad (or any other text editing applications) and copy and paste this into the text editor:
Quote
deny from all

Now save that into the DB_INFO folder, and make sure you name it .htaccess.
NOTE: When saving it as .htaccess, make sure you select All Files on the Save as type:.

6.) Go back to the access.php file you created earlier, and open it up.

Now, this is where we get technical:

For security purposes, you need to come up with a HUGE password. Something like:
Quote
YoUwillNEverguEssthisAmaz1ngp2ssw5rd
(notice how I use upper/lower case and numeric characters there...)

Once you have thought of a password, copy and paste this into your access.php file:

Quote
$exp_pass="YOURPASSWORD";
$req_pass = $_POST['my_pass'];

if ($exp_pass == $req_pass){

require_once('DB_INFO/db.php');

// do what you want with your SQL db here.

//once you have done all DB queries, and you've got the info you need from the DB, you need to send the info to your GDI hosted domain, so you put it all in an array:

$final_DB_result=array('example_name' => $DB_q['Name'], 'example_email' => $DB_q['Email']);

//once all the info is in the array, you need to use JSON ENCODE to encode the info:

echo json_encode($final_DB_result);

}

Now of course, you can do as you please in the access.php file (any kind of DB query (insert, select, drop, etc etc). So you need to change that code up a little, which I'm sure your capable of doing.

7.) Once you have that done, re-upload it to your GoDaddy server..

Now back to your GDI server:

8.) Open up the .php file you which to access your SQL DB with, or if you haven't already, create one and call it what you like.

9.) Copy and paste this code into the .php file:

Quote
$pass="YOURPASSWORDHERE";
$fields = array(
    'my_pass' => $pass,
);
$field_string = "";
foreach($fields as $key=>$value) {
   $fields_string .= $key.'='.$value.'&'; }
rtrim($fields_string,'&');
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_URL,"http://YOUR_GODADDY_DOMAIN/ACCESS.PHP");
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_POST,count($fields));
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS,$fields_string);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
$F_RESULT = curl_exec($ch);
$data = json_decode($F_RESULT);

//now we wanna fetch some of that data we put in that array, so here's how we do it:

$name = $data->example_name;
$email = $data->example_email;

//and for testing purposes, we shall echo the fetched info out:

echo "here is $name, and here is $email";

And there you have it, you've sent a request to another server, to process all the DB stuff, and once its all be processed, you get the info back at your GDI domain.

Just a short Brief of what actually goes on, when you use this method:

Basically, the first thing that happens is your password gets sent off to the access.php file on your GoDaddy server. Then, the password gets checked to see if it matches the correct password (defined in the access.php file itself.)

If the password is correct, all your DB queries will be processed and your results will be placed in an array, which will then be echoed out with JSON for your GDI domain to fetch, and decode.

Once everything is done on your GoDaddy side, your GDI domain will then decode that array, and allow you to use it as you please (echo it, email it, do whatever with it).

NOTE: You can send all you want from your GDI domain to access.php. So lets say your working on a HTML form which places its input data into a db...You can simply send off the form data to access.php the same way you do with the password:

Just include it into the $fields array:

Quote
$fields = array(
    'my_pass' => $pass,
'form_input_name' => $form_name,
'form_input_email' => $form_email, //etc etc
);

and then, you can receive it in your access.php file, in the same way you do the password:

Quote
$req_pass = $_POST['my_pass'];
$the_form_data_name=$POST['form_input_name'];
$the_form_data_email=$POST['form_input_email'];// etc etc So you can send and receive as much variables/data as you want to process in the DB query or for other purposes....

NOW, NOTE:
Some of the steps I mentioned are just done for security reasons, which therefore mean they are optional, BUT I HIGHLY recommend them.

Also: It would be stupid of you to just use the code/file names/folder names I've written in this example on your project, as some evil monster could be reading this, and thats not good. So make sure you change the folder.file names to your own (so change DB_INFO and other file names to something you'd better prefer. If you do change the names, be sure to change it in the code.)

As to your other question, I'm not quite sure about hot to access the php.ini file. You should contact support, they should be able to help you with that.

One more thing: Because my example it not the safest way to go about this, I'm not responsible for any action you take, whether you use my example or not.

And its taken me over an hour to right this all out for you, so I am expecting some feedback on how things go please.

But other then that, happy coding!
