Well done. For a first time you have done a good job. I would just like to point out there is a spelling error on the homepage it reads "Get read to start living life ..."
Can see that you have planned this quite well.

I like the way pages do not scroll , and the pages are compact, showing just enough information to spark off interest.

I would like to comment on just a few things:
  • Maybe you could introduce a bit of colour, just to increase interest?
  • The menu items could maybe be arranged slightly different. Putting the GDI related content first, then things to sell, and contact us page last.

Other than that you have done a great job, keep it up.

If you need any help with any of your web development needs please do not hesitate to contact me.
2  .WS/GDI Discussion / New Member? / Re: Hi All from NEW ZEALAND!!! on: August 14, 2005, 08:05:20 PM
Hey Russell,

I am also in New Zealand. Altho not originally from here, I moved here about 6 months ago, and am loving every minute of it. Which part are you in? Maybe we could get together and help each other along the way to build this business?

Thanks

I believe so. It sends to all the trial, active and inactive members in your downline, unless they have opted out of receiving messages from their upline.

Thanks and I agree with what you have just said. As far as the lack of hits goes what I was trying to say (which I may not have put across correctly) was that some of my clients complained that although people visited their site, they didnt stay long enough to actually see what the opportunity was. This was brought about by bad design and planning, and having everything slapped onto the homepage.
Cramming loads of information on the homepage is NOT the way to go. The homepage should highlight the main and most important points, like the front page of a magazine does. And clear planning, will make it easy for people to find their way around the site to pages of interest to them.

I never said that a page should NEVER scroll. I am just saying that it should be kept to a minimum.

Anyway I think the bottom line and what we are both trying to get to is PLANNING! For a website to work, it needs careful planning, not only from a design perspective and how it should look, but also the structure and flow of the website is important too.

I hope this helps clearing up any misunderstandings. It would be great to chat with you.

I agree with what you have to say, and do not discredit any of it. However as a web designer and programmer myself, I am constantly dealing with clients who complain that their websites are not bringing in the necessary hits necessary, to make the website credible for their organisation.

As long as the scrolling is kept to a minimum (Not reams and reams of the stuff) and layed out in an orgranised manner, then that is ok.
However I do believe the hompage of a website should act like the front page of a magazine or brochure, just highlighting the important information, and making things clearly visible to the user, to direct them to where they want to go to get the correct information.

Hope this makes sense.

If anyone needs any help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I think your site was not bad at all for a first try. However I would like to make a few constructive criticisms.

Firstly, you should try to keep scrolling to a minimum. It is recognised that most internet surfers do not scroll, so if you could keep all the info within the size of the screen that would be excellent.

Also I wouldn't try to put all the info on the homepage. The homepage is the first image a client would have of your site, and this needs to reflect the excellent quality of your services. As such it should act like the first page of a magazine or a brochure. Include all the "important" details about your site, and information on the hompage. Then get all the other information on other pages.

You have done well in naming your other pages by names which represent themselves. Too often people name extra pages "page2" page 3" etc. These names will lmean nothing to a prospective client and will lose them very quickly. By naming the pages by representative names, the client knows where he wants to go from the start, and that engages them to stay.

Other than that, it looks good and does give a feeling of going on a holiday.

keep up the good work, you are doing great!

Hope this helps. If you need anymore please do not hesitate to contact me.

I agree the strong message needs to be seen immediately. But people are more likely to click to get to further information, then scroll down and read it all.

A strong message needs to be seen immediately, with access to relevant information within 3 clicks and back.

Also you need to promote not only the affiliate program but also the service as well. And propects need to be given the choice as to which part they want to go to.
If a prospect is only interested in the affiliate part, they wont want to read about the service, and vice versa. You need to gauge their interest depending on their need. Therefore I would encourage people to have a homepage which gives both options, allowing people to choose.

Hope this clears up a few things

Hi,

when it comes to uploading pictures to websites, I would strongly recommend using short names with no spaces at all. In fact try to keep the name as simple as possible, while keeping it easy to reference. (So you don't get lost as to what is what). The best is to have single words or at most double words with maybe a number as reference.

When picture names are too long, or have weird characters or spaces in it, builders get lost and can't use them.

Hope this helps

9  .WS Services / Showcase Your Website / Re: Why Do I need a website- Your suggestions please on: July 28, 2005, 04:00:09 PM
I think the main answer to this, is that in this day and age a website is a must.

Since the website obtained from GDI is a personal one, and can be used for anything, this should be taken as a huge opportunity for any project the prospect may have had in mind.

Business (Gdi and/or any other)
Family (staying in contact as a lot of families are dispersed. A chance to show latest photos and more to share with family)
Personal (any other personal motivation)

I guess its all in the way you put it across that really matters.

Hope this helps

Hi,

This is just a tip i wanted to share with everyone since I notice that a lot of newbies to website construction seem to be making the same mistake.

90% of internet surfers never scroll down a page!!!

This means that when creating your website, you should try to keep the scrolling on a page to a minimum. Create more pages if necessary to fit all the content in, and pack that homepage (The initial page people arrive at when visiting your website) with the most important points!

Hope this helps

11  .WS Business / Team Building / Converting from trial to active on: July 26, 2005, 04:21:04 PM
Hi,

I don't know whether i am doing something wrong here, but basically most of my trials are firstly without any payment method and then just drop off at the end of their trial week. I do stay in contact as often as possible (without being a nag) and suggest methods etc, but nothing seems to be keeping them on board. I have had 36 trials in 2 months which I think isn't bad. 1 has become active. I currently have 4 trials with no payment methods, and 1 with a payment method. The rest is inactive.
How can I urge people to stay on? What am i doing wrong?
Any help and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and regards

12  .WS Services / WebSite Development / Re: FTP-is there lag time? on: July 25, 2005, 05:59:32 PM
Could you let me know what the FTP details are like? I have been trying to get GDI to host my site only, but have never received an email with the FTP details. But they should be pretty straightforward such as http://FTP://mywebsite.ws using my username and password, right???

Thanks for your help

13  .WS Business / Team Building / Inactive Account sign ups on: July 20, 2005, 09:21:38 PM
Hi,

This week I have had several people sign up, but without reqistering domain names, thus making them inactive ...  Sad Huh

Is this just happening to me? Or have other people had the same problem?

What would you recommend I do about it? And how should I try to get them to register and become active accounts?

Thanks for your comments
