31  .WS Services / WebSite Development / Re: Should we be allowed to have hidden pages with the new sitebuilder? on: October 15, 2005, 06:49:28 PM
Help.

I used site builder to begin building my site.  If you use the "in-house" site builder, you automatically are going to be hosted by website.ws (GDI), correct?  If so, then why is my site just showing the INDEX of  parent directory when I go to my website via the internet.  Any help you can give me is appreciated.

Margie,

Did you publish your pages?  And did you make them visible?  If so, what is the website address?

Frank,

According to GDI support, the new version of site builder DOES NOT SUPPORT HIDDEN PAGES.   You can hide a page, but, like Tatjana said, it will only be accessible to you through site builder.  If you try to go to it via the page address, it will redirect you to http://website.ws/YOURID.

YOU can have hidden pages because you did NOT use GDI's sitebuilder.  This discussion is about GDI's sitebuilder allowing us to have hidden pages.  In the GDI site builder, you have no control over what links show and what links do not show.  If a page is hidden in sitebuilder, NOONE can access it via ANY means other than sitebuilder.

BUT...what Katrina said about putting a space in DOES WORK.  You have to make it visible and publish it.  It will leave a space in your list of pages but the space is NOT clickable.  You can get to it directly via the page address and VOILA - hidden page.

If you have ONE (just ONE and ONLY ONE) person email GDI and say you are spamming them (even if they are opt in leads) your GDI account (including your personal website) will IMMEDIATELY BE SUSPENDED.  It happened to me.  I had to jump through all kinds of hoops and go back to the original lead provider and get the lead capture page and the original form that was filled out.  I had to get a statement from the lead provider.  Even though I had the IP address and date/time stamp, it wasn't enough.  AND - according to GDI - even if you can get these things, if it ever happens again, you will be terminated WITHOUT notice until a fine is paid.

If you are purchasing leads from someone who purchases them from someone else for resale, you may not be able to get that info so easily even though they come with IP and date/time.  That is not always enough.  GDI takes this very seriously.  Make sure the lead source you are using can provide these things if ever needed.

I no longer send people to GDI.  I send them directly to my website and I set up a link in my emails to report spam to spam@mywebsite.ws.  That way, they don't even go to the GDI site unless they want to sign up.

36  .WS/GDI Discussion / Questions & Issues / Re: Spam Policy on: October 04, 2005, 08:05:45 PM
GDI wants people to opt out at the GDI site because of this:

Let's say Suzie emails Joey and Joey opts out of emails with Suzie, but Suzie doesn't opt him out of GDI emails.  Then Carol gets Joeys name (because we all know that if someone filled out one form, they've probably filled out many) and she emails Joey about GDI.  Joey opts out of Carol's autoresponder, but Carol's autoresponder does not opt him out of GDI.  Then Jeff gets Joeys name and plugs him into the invite system.  Now Joey has gotten 3 emails from GDI (or so he thinks) and he knows he has opted out, so he is P*SS*D.  He turns GDI into the gov't for spamming him and GDI has to deal with it.  Also, Jeff will probably get kicked out of GDI and/or fined.  Poor Jeff only emailed Joey once, but now he is fined and has all kinds of problems.  That is why GDI wants people to opt out at the GDI site.

Great job on your site Martin.

I guess the reason I didn't reply last time was I don't understand why - if you're just going to duplicate what's on the .ws site, why not just send them there instead of your site?  But, now that I've looked at it a little more, you do have google ads and other links on there.

The way you put that in a frame looks awesome.

39  .WS/GDI Discussion / Questions & Issues / Storage space for gallery on: September 23, 2005, 01:30:22 PM
Just an FYI - I have been going back and forth with support all week.  I have a windows media file that is 39 MB and the gallery is supposed to hold 100 MB.  After numerous emails to and from support, they had me email them the file and they tried to upload it to my gallery.  The following is what I received today from support.

Quote
Good Afternoon,

We apologize for this taking do long.  We have attempted to upload your file into your gallery and were unsuccessful. Only 10MB of a file can be uploaded at one time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Kindest Regards,

.WS Support

So - if anyone is signing up intending to use a file larger than 10 mb on their site, it can not be done.

Is there a way to load my website using a word document? I have "wrtten" a company profile that outlines my company and the links to associate sites. I have tried to copy and paste, with no luck. Do I have to retype all of it in HTML?
Any guidence would be appreciated.

chuck

Hi Chuck,

When saving your word document, choose file and save as then HTML document.  Then after it is saved, choose view HTML source and copy and paste into your site builder.  If it's too long, you will have to copy and paste in sections.  You will get an error if it's too long.

Paul,

You were trying to fit as much as possible in the window without making people scroll down huh??  I have better than 20/20 vision and it was hard to read the white on black in such small letters.

But...if the writing were larger, I think it would be great

I like the work from work thing.  Awesome concept.

You will go far with GDI.

Kaci,

LOOKS AWESOME!!!  It took me a minute to figure out why the movie didn't start.  It won't start without a last name in there.  But...I like the option of if the movie doesn't load, click here.

Love the personal touch!!!  Great job.  Keep it up!!!
